Bannerman is one of several residential neighbourhoods of the Clareview district. Edmonton City Council approved the Clareview Outline Plan in May 1972. Much of the residential land in Bannerman was developed during the 1970s.

The community’s educational and recreation facilities are conveniently located at the centre of the neighbourhood. Interior residential streets are designed to provide efficient traffic flow to and from Bannerman. Access to a variety of commercial businesses is conveniently available at Clareview Town Centre on Victoria Trail. Residents also have access to Edmonton’s commercial and employment areas via the LRT terminal located north of 137th Avenue.

The neighbourhood was named after local businessman H. Bannerman who settled in the Belmont area in 1883. Mr. Bannerman served on the Belmont School Board.
