The remaining units are housed in apartments lower than five stories and in row housing; there are also a few semi-detached homes, which make up 1% of residential units within the neighbourhood.

After residential land use, institutional and recreational land uses are the next largest land use groups. Kilkenny is home to five schools (3 elementary schools, one junior high school, and one composite high school) and the Londonderry Fitness and Leisure Centre and athletic grounds. There are also several parks located within the neighbourhood. Residents have good access to nearby Londonderry Mall, and access to other parts of the city.

The name of this neighbourhood, Kilkenny, was taken from an inland county and town in Ireland. The name reflects other Irish names for neighbourhoods within the area, including: Kildare, Killarney and Londonderry.
