Welcome to Kilkenny

Kilkenny is a bit of a hidden gem in northeast Edmonton. This mature neighbourhood seems close to everything while remaining relatively quiet. You’ll find plenty of amenities and schools nearby, making it a great choice for families with children of all ages.

Kilkenny is framed by 82 Street and 66 Street on the west and east, and by 153 Avenue and 144 Avenue on the north and south, respectively. You’ll find a total of four schools operated by Edmonton Public School Board in the neighbourhood: J.A. Fife and John Barnett elementary schools, Londonderry Junior High, and M.E. Lazerte High School.

Single detached housing comprises about 60 percent of Kilkenny’s housing, with the remaining being devoted to low-rise apartments and row housing. More about Kilkenny...

Kilkenny’s History

Development began in Kilkenny in the 1960s. By 1980, development was 75% complete. A strip of land on the north end of the neighbourhood was cleared for development at this point, and the rest of the neighbourhood was built up over the next decade. Like several other neighbourhoods in the area, Kilkenny was named after an inland county and town in Ireland.

Kilkenny Today

Today, Kilkenny is a mature neighbourhood that’s serviced by many amenities and a convenient location. With Londonderry Leisure Centre sitting adjacent to M.E. Lazerte High School, residents have a city-run fitness facility nearby. Nearby Londonderry Mall is undergoing a bit of a renaissance, with a brand new Simons store opening in 2017. Kilkenny also has an active community league that runs a variety of programs in the neighbourhood.
