Lymburn mostly developed from the 1970s through to the 1990s.  Roughly 35% of the development occurred in the 1970s, a further 45% occurred in the 1980s and another 16% occurred in the 1990s.  The Community does have a slightly younger population as well as slightly large homes than the city average which seems to explain the fact that there is more school aged children within family households.  

There are currently 2 schools located in the community, Lymburn Elementary School operated by the Edmonton Public School System and ST. Martha Catholic Elementary School.

The community is named after attorney general John F. Lymburn.
