Rossdale’s History

Originally named Ross Flats, after Donald Ross, the man who built Edmonton’s first hotel, Rossdale was once home to a brewery, ice house, lumber yard, power plant, and coal mine. There was, however, a severe flood in 1915, and many homes and industrial buildings were damaged or lost. Most businesses did not return and much of the commercial and industrial properties were transformed.

Rossdale Today

Today Rossdale is in a wonderful revitalization and redevelopment process, meaning many new homes in the area. Most of the homes in the neighbourhood (45%) were built after 1991. It is directly south of the downtown core with easy access to the University of Alberta, the river valley, and downtown.

Bound by the River Valley to the north, the North Saskatchewan River to the south and east, and 106 Street / Bellamy Hill to the West, Rossdale has a great mix of residential areas, natural beauty, and bustling commercial areas. If you’re in the market for a centrally-located home in a beautiful natural setting, make sure Rossdale is on your list.
