Summerside’s History

Construction began in Summerside in 2000. Construction is nearing completion as of 2017, with the neighbourhood being mostly filled-up by this point. Summerside was a part of a major transformation of south-central Edmonton in the first decade of the millennium. The surrounding Ellerslie and South Edmonton Common commercial areas developed alongside Summerside, as did Anthony Henday Drive to the north.

Summerside Today

Summerside is a vibrant community. The lake itself is a residents-only (and invited guests)  beach and park area, making it a summer destination for residents. This 28-foot deep lake is the perfect place for a swim, a paddleboard trip, or even some fishing (the lake is stocked with trout). Tennis courts and tons of activity programming means there’s always something to do.

Summerside currently contains one school, Michael Strembitsky School, offering programs for grades two through nine. This truly a unique suburban neighbourhood. If you thought all suburbs were the same, think again.
