Windermere’s History

Windermere was acquired in a major annexation by the City of Edmonton in 1982. The city began a project in 2004 to create a neighbourhood with a focus on walking paths, parks, and community centres. Development continues today, as Windermere transforms into an exciting and desirable place to live in Edmonton’s southwest.

Windermere Today

The homes in Windermere are mostly large, single detached homes on spacious lots, some of which overlook the North Saskatchewan River, one of the two golf courses, or other parks. This vibrant neighbourhood is close to the Currents of Windermere, a one-stop shopping area with many banks, clothing stores, and popular restaurant chains, including Brown’s Socialhouse, and Edmonton’s only VIP Theatre.

Windermere is a growing community with a bright future thanks to the city development currently taking place. This is a very exciting neighbourhood to be a part of, as it flourishes into a new, green community.
