Callaghan’s History
As a part of the Heritage Valley area, Callaghan’s name comes from the theme of “Edmontonians of the Century.” It was named after Dr. John Callaghan, a renowned heart surgeon. Callaghan’s Neighbourhood Structure Plan was adopted in 2005, and while all lots have been sold, construction has continued into 2018. Much of the neighbourhood is shaped by Blackmud Creek, which runs along its right edge. The creek starts south of Edmonton, at Saunders Lake near Nisku, and eventually flows into Whitemud Creek north of Twin Brooks.
Callaghan Today
Today, Callaghan is largely developed, and occupies a prime location in southwest Edmonton. Its location means easy access to Highway 2 and the areas south of Edmonton, and a future LRT station will mean a quick connection to central areas in the future. In the meantime, Callaghan is one of the area’s premiere communities, with everything from executive level homes to beautiful condos.
James Mowatt Trail provides easy access to businesses along Ellerslie Road, and a new commercial complex is coming up just west of the neighbourhood and includes a Superstore. Callaghan is truly a gem, and should be on your list if you’re looking for new homes and condos in southwest Edmonton.
