There are two schools in Empire Park: McKee Elementary School and L. Y. Cairns School, a specialized junior and senior high school.

Empire Park’s History
The land where Empire Park stands was annexed by the City of Edmonton in 1959, as part of a 6,950 acre annexation that covers most of what is now Edmonton’s mature southwest and south-central. Modern development of the neighbourhood began during the 1960s and for the most part was complete by the 1970s.
Empire Park Today
Today, Empire Park is a relatively affordable neighbourhood with a desirable, central location. It boast easy access to the Whitemud Freeway as well as Gateway Boulevard/Calgary Trail, giving it great access to other parts of the city. The LRT also runs along the neighbourhood’s western edge, with a stop at Southgate Centre.
Southgate occupies about one quarter of Empire Park’s property area. Additional businesses are located along 51 Avenue and Calgary Trail South, making Empire Park a convenient and walkable neighbourhood.
