 McCauley’s History

This lively neighbourhood was named for Matthew McCauley, the first Mayor of Edmonton. Development started in the area after the first streetcar line in Edmonton was extended into the heart of McCauley in 1912. The 1978 Commonwealth Games were hosted here at the Commonwealth Stadium. For those interested in Edmonton’s history, there are seven official sites designated as Municipal Historic Resources.

McCauley is also home to Edmonton’s Commonwealth Stadium, an open-air, multi-purpose stadium used as a concert venue and as the home of the Edmonton Eskimos football team.
