Ormsby’s History
Ormsby Place was developed in two phases from the 1970s to early 2000s: the east which is laid out among loops and cul-de-sacs, and the west, which is newer, uses curvilinear streets and is planned around a central park.. The neighbourhood gets its name from A.W. Ormsby, who developed Edmonton’s current grid system of numbered streets and avenues.
Ormsby Today
Ormsby is a great place to live, not just because of the quiet neighbourhood itself, but because of what is offered right next door to it. The North Saskatchewan River Valley is minutes away and, really, anywhere you want to go is nearby, thanks to Anthony Henday Drive and Whitemud Drive. The Marketplace at Callingwood, a shopping centre, is located right across 178 Street in the Callingwood South neighbourhood. Willowby Park is home to Ormsby’s Elementary School (the only school in the neighbourhood), Sunnyside Daycare, and the Willowby Community League.
