Rapperswill’s History

There is some confusion over Rapperswill’s name. While this is the official name given by the City of Edmonton, the land developer had dubbed the area Newcastle. Since Rapperswill is officially a part of the Castledowns neighbourhood, Newcastle does make sense. Development concepts for Rapperswill included making use of the existing natural areas, including a beautiful stand of mature aspen, and ensuring pedestrian connections throughout the neighbourhood. Plans for a school, community league, and neighbourhood park were also included in this plan.

Rapperswill Today

Newcastle Shopping Centre provides residents with a range of amenities, including banking, grocery, and restaurant services. Be sure to check out Royal Pizza, an Edmonton stalwart that has long served up some of Edmonton’s best pizza.

With 127 Street providing access to Anthony Henday Drive’s northern portion, getting to Edmonton’s east or west sides is very easy from Rapperswill. Nothing is too far from Rapperswill, but the walkable neighbourhood’s natural areas make it an attractive place to call home as well.
