Far from the noise and bustle of downtown, Rutherford is the perfect place to get away from it all without sacrificing convenience. The business district at the neighbourhood’s northeast corner can cover your basics, and nearby Anthony Henday Drive and Gateway Boulevard quickly take you to other parts of the city. The serene Blackburn Creek Park in the neighbouring Blackmud Creek community can make you forget you’re in the city at all.

Rutherford is tucked into Edmonton’s growing southwest quadrant, bordered by James Mowatt Trail to the east, 127 Street to the west, Ellerslie Road to the north, and 22 Avenue SW to the south. The area has two schools -- Johnny Bright and Monsignor Fee Otterson, both of which welcome students in kindergarten through grade nine. More about Rutherford...

Rutherford's History

Most of Rutherford’s history is unwritten -- this is your chance to help shape it. Rutherford takes its name from Alexander Cameron Rutherford, the first premier of Alberta. Rutherford and his family arrived in Edmonton in 1895. He was instrumental in construction of the University of Alberta.
