The Orchards at Ellerslie’s History
Located within the Ellerslie area, The Orchards was originally named Neighbourhood 3 of the Ellerslie Area Structure Plan (ASP). The land use was mostly agricultural before The Orchards at Ellerslie Neighbourhood Structure Plan (NSP) was adopted in 2007. The NSP stated that The Orchards would be a “vibrant, healthy, residential neighbourhood” that would offer “a diverse mix of housing types, places to learn, places to play and relax, and a variety of transportation options.” This has come to fruition today in The Orchards!
The Orchards at Ellerslie Today
The Orchards keeps a great website, Orchards Connect, allowing residents to stay connected to community events and news. The original plan for The Orchards focused on landscape design, and one unique aspect is that each sub-area of the neighbourhood has its own distinct flowers or trees associated with it, so each time you enter a new area, you’ll know by the foliage.
The Orchards is a short distance away from both Highway 2 and Anthony Henday Drive, the ring road that takes you all around the city. It is under a 10 minute drive to South Edmonton Common, one of North America’s largest open air shopping, dining, and entertainment centres.
