Walker’s History
Walker was originally a part of the Southeast Agricultural Structure Plan Bylaw. Most of the land within Walker’s boundaries was used for agriculture. The Walker NSP was created to develop a suburban area while working hand in hand with the City of Edmonton’s Municipal Development Plan (MDP). The MDP encouraged cost-effective growth, efficient land use, and protection of the natural environment. The permits granted were for multi-density housing, commercial use, schools, and parks, which have grown to fruition beautifully.
Walker Today
The Walker of today is a vibrant area with apartments, condos, row houses, single detached homes, and duplexes/fourplexes. There are small lakes and parks all connected by multi-use paths. It is truly an oasis within the city limits that allows you to breathe and stretch out.
The current development will only further the beauty and livability of this already comfortable area. Plus, you don’t have to go far for groceries, your preferred bank, or some everyday treats! With a Walmart Supercentre, Cobs Bakery, and gas stations and financial institutions within the boundaries, your favourite places are a quick bike ride away. And there is more where that came from; new stores are opening all the time as development continues.
